NYS AIRS Membership

Information & Referral services come in many forms. Human service workers, librarians, and others play an important role in helping people locate social and health services. Hundreds of providers work independently, but rarely collaboratively, to meet community needs. In an environment of decreasing resources and increasing demands, I&R professionals can maximize their outcomes by working together.

I&R is a key component of the modern social-service delivery system. Keeping your I&R services on the cutting edge requires knowledge of social work skills, changing entitlements and resources, taxonomy, technology, marketing, and funding sources. Day-to-day work demands leave us with little time or opportunity to network with each other and enhance our skills.

NYS AIRS provides its members with diverse ways to network, recharge, meet other I&R providers, and learn. Members work in all types of services and represent all levels of workers from online specialists to supervisors and program directors.

Benefits of NYS AIRS Membership

NYS AIRS  provides its members with opportunities to:

  • advocate for stronger information and referral systems within the State,
  • network with other I&R professionals,
  • share resources,
  • learn new skills or improve existing skills, and
  • keep abreast of new developments affecting the information and referral profession.

NYS AIRS members receive:

  • a vote in NYS AIRS matters
  • a subscription to "NYS AIRS Notes," our newsletter, (agency members may also request up to three separately addressed newsletters and other mailings for employees and volunteers)
  • The NYS AIRS Membership Directory

How to Join NYS AIRS:

As of January 2006 there is now a single membership structure for both AIRS and NYS AIRS, whereby an individual, agency or organization will join both associations at a level that best meets their individual needs.

Individuals, agencies or organizations will not need to, nor be able to, join NYS AIRS only; i.e. each individual, agency or organization is also a member of AIRS.  The single membership with AIRS includes membership in NYS AIRS.
